PRESIDENTS
MESSAGE
The
president’s message is short and from the heart this month. “I wish
a Blessed and Merry
Holiday
Season to all my
fellow Kiwanians!”
Yours in service--
Wyman
DECEMBER KIWANIS ACTIVITIES
Take
a deep breath! We now enter our busiest month of the year. The Santa
Project has been in process since November 19 and many volunteer hours
are required. Be an active Kiwanis member and take your turn. In
addition to the role of Santa Claus, a number of unofficial “elves”
are required to take the pictures and do the paper work. Who knows, you
might even have a little fun being involved in this project.
On
December 1 the annual collection for the “Boots & Coats for
Tots” program will take place. This will be the only request for
donations from members during December that is authorized by the board.
Be generous. I think we would all be shocked at the number of children
in our community who are not adequately prepared for the winter weather.
We can be the change! The annual Kids Christmas Shopping trip will be
held on December 3, with Jerry Parks and Mary Kuster as co-chairpersons.
Experience the joy of assisting a youngster do some Christmas shopping.
It will possibly be the only shopping they have ever done for other
family members. This is an emotional and heartwarming experience.
On
Friday, December 16, Kiwanis members will ring the bells for the
Salvation Army at 5 locations; Post Office, Hy Vee on Agency, K-Mart,
Shopko, and the Walmart South entrance. We need at least 2 persons at
each location at all times. Please donate at least one hour of your time
that day to help raise funds for those who have little. With the
Salvation Army coffers drained due to the disastrous hurricanes in the
South, they need money desperately. The hours are between
9 a.m.
and
4 p.m.
and you can sign up at
our regular meetings or by calling Tom Cameron at 754-8488 or by e-mail
at cis11@mchsi.com. This is a friendly competition among the service
clubs, so if you usually make a donation, please hold it to be put in
the kettle on December 16. Also, if your business makes a donation, also
see that it is placed in the kettle on that date. If you will not be
available on the 16th, you may give your donation
to Tom to be placed in the kettle.
