PRESIDENTS
MESSAGE
Whewww!!! That sound is a
collective sigh of relief as we wind up our busiest time of the year. I
can’t even begin to tell you how proud I am to be a Kiwanian and to
share in the many activities we are involved in at this time of year.
Yes, our personal schedules have been busy, yet many of you found extra
time to generously pitch in where needed. Those of you who weren’t
able to physically join in obviously gave in other ways as we collected
a record amount of money this year for Coats & Boots for Tots,
followed by a wonderful collection of tips for our banquet staff who so
diligently take care of us throughout the year. Robert South said, “If
there be any truer measure of a man than by what he does, it must be by
what he gives.” Thank you all!
Special kudos go out to
Bruce Smith and the Santa Committee. I have seen the preliminary numbers
and it appears that we may have a record year once again in moneys
earned at the mall. It requires a tremendous investment of time from
everyone involved on the Santa committee, and certainly is reflected by
how smoothly everything ran (with the exception of our Santa
hypothetically dropping his drawers)…..believe me, that “well-oiled
machine” doesn’t happen by accident or on its own. Please be sure to
thank Bruce and his crew for all their efforts. Other activities that
successfully took place were the “Ding-A-Lings” and the “Kid’s
Shopping
Spree
at Target.”
It is a well-deserved respite we enjoy during
January. Even though we don’t have any organized activities in
January, we can’t rest completely. Our membership recruitment efforts
need to continue. The lifeblood of any club is its new members – they
bring fresh ideas and extra energy to our organization. We need to be
talking Kiwanis wherever we go…..tell your barber or hairdresser, and
invite them to a meeting. Next time you are at the store, mention
Kiwanis to your friendly clerk and invite them to a meeting. Be the
change in their life….give them an opportunity to share in the Kiwanis
experience. I challenge each of you to invite one person/potential
member to be our guest at a regular meeting before the end of the year.
I’m not asking you to recruit multiples, just find one person you
believe would enjoy being a part of our club and bring them to a
meeting. They’ll see the obvious enjoyment, laughter, camaraderie and
serious attention to our goals, and will want to join in. Remember, they
are all just waiting to be asked to join.
Finally, I would like to invite anyone interested
to attend our Board meetings. They are held the first and third Tuesday
of each month at
12:10 p.m.
at the Comfort Suites. Your input is valuable to
us, and the board meetings present the perfect opportunity for you to
bring special concerns or new ideas to us. Hope to see you all
there.
Have a joyous, peaceful and blessed 2006!
Yours in service
Wyman
