Dear Kiwanians –
Wow! I can hardly believe that as I write this newsletter I only
have three months remaining in my term as your president! Time sure
flies when you’re having fun. It feels like only yesterday when I took
office. Thank you for always being willing to help with the tasks of the
club.
The 4th of July has always been a big celebration for
the Weinbeck family ... we all get together and share fun and memories.
With 9 siblings, and in-laws, and add in all the nieces and nephews
we’ll likely have somewhere in the vicinity of 45 people at our Old
Fashioned American Picnic. Everyone gets involved in the planning and
coordination of these get-togethers. E-mails fly back and forth as we
decide who all will be there, who’s bringing the hot dogs and burgers,
the beans, the potato salad, the buns and of course the refreshments.
Suggestions are made on the activities ... will we have another
watermelon seed spitting contest, or should we do a longest boot kick
this year. What do you think about a three-legged race, croquet, bocce
ball, and we must include the requisite water balloon toss. Who will
make the homemade ice cream and what time will we shoot off the
fireworks? Do you think the police will look the other way AGAIN this
year as we shoot off our illegal fireworks??? There are so many plans,
so much to do, so many people scurrying and sharing in the work to make
our picnics seem effortless. In the process we all have a great time and
share family moments together.
Our Kiwanis Club works the same way ... we’re one BIG family
sharing the planning and implementation process that allows us to make
our community life a bit better. When we ALL get involved, not only at
the implementation phase but early in the planning phase, we can create
functions and activities that benefit not just children, but ourselves
as well. The sight of a child admiring his new coat, the smile of a
child on Santa’s lap, heaping plates of pancakes and sausages and
dictionaries in every student’s desk don’t happen by accident. All
of this is the result of great planning, coordination and working
together by OUR KIWANIS FAMILY. In the process we too have a great time
and are allowed the opportunity to share our Kiwanis Family moments
together.
GET INVOLVED ...
BE THE CHANGE
