Happy Holidays,

The holidays are getting closer and that means LOTS of activity in the Burlington Kiwanis Club. It is key that everyone pitch in and take a shift to volunteer as Santa or one of Santa’s helpers, ring the bells for Salvation Army and become officially known as a “Ding A Ling” in our club, or wake up early and help children do some shopping for their holiday gifts at the Target Shopping Spree . If you need more information on those events, they are each highlighted later in the Newsletter.

As we all know, December is a time of giving by many of us. There are a few projects and simple gestures that our club has always participated in during this time of giving. The Boots and Coats program will be asking for donations at the December 6 meeting. At the December 20th meeting we will be asking all of you to take a few minutes and thank the servers that are with us throughout the year and help make our weekly meetings possible. Christy Pfeifer, Michelle Pepmeyer, Sandy Heiniger, Kelly Pfeifer, Miranda Gerstel are our servers throughout the year. We will take up a collection for the servers that noon and then award them with the proceeds at the end of the meeting

I had dinner on a previous Saturday evening with a few Kiwanians and we began discussing new ideas on how to fund projects, both locally and worldwide. Is funding a project half way around the world something the Burlington Kiwanis Club will ever do? It is a question that the club will need to answer. I look forward to helping create an environment that club members can explore this question and hopefully come up with an answer. Our Kiwanis pledge states “As our country’s flag signifies purity, valor and justice, may we as true Kiwanians exemplify these virtues as we serve the children of the world.” What world is that? Des Moines County , Iowa , the United States or The World. I challenge you to look for new ideas of projects we can fund and decide what world you want to help. Please let us know what your thoughts are. It is one more opportunity for the club to look at how we touch the lives and serve the children of the world.

Have a Happy Holiday and Prosperous New Year                    .       \

Kay
