Dear Kiwanians,
What can we do to help? This question has been asked by
many of you who understand the importance of how Kiwanis can make a
difference.
What can we do to help? It’s a massive question. With
all of the flooding that has occurred to our friends, neighbors and
local businesses, it is hard for me to get a grasp around an answer.
As I have read the paper, seen the photos talked with
many of you and many area businesses, the losses just keep adding up.
So, what can we do to help?
We, the Kiwanians, have already started helping. Thank
you to all of you who made generous donations at the June 19 meeting.
You gave openly at the Board’s request and we raised $896.63. What a
tremendous amount of money, just to be collected during one lunch.
The Board is investigating possible options of the
giving of the donations. They are planning to include funds from the
club as well. A special meeting on July 3 is going to be held so we can
make that determination. Once we have collected all of the donations and
have met, we will let you know on who and where the donations will go
to.
In addition to the donations, volunteers have already
stepped forward to put their thinking caps on and see what else we can
do to help. It may be a specific fundraiser for flood victims or maybe a
new service project. The possibilities are endless. If you are
interested in helping that group, contact Pam Farr.
As Kiwanians, our mission is “to serve,” and we are
already serving in this time of need. We are serving as individuals and
as a club, working to make a difference. I am proud to be a member of
the
Burlington
Kiwanis Club and hope you are too.
